Stop Struggling and Start Thriving in your Life, Work, and Relationships
If you’re like many of the Portland men I’ve counseled, you’re torn between the struggle of meeting the demands of your work, family, and relationships, while still getting your own needs met. Most of these men didn’t know what to do and weren’t sure about counseling. Getting on the path to greater success, more enjoyment, and better relationships took courage and probably a strong dose of encouragement from their wife, girlfriend, boss, or friend to give me a call. Maybe this sounds like you. I know that the decision to seek help is a complicated one. That’s why I’ve provided some free resources, a video, and more information about me to help guide you in deciding whether to make that call.
You don't have to just suck it up and do it alone
You don’t have to keep struggling in silence telling yourself this is just the way life is and to just push on through, suck it up. You strive so hard for the gold medal, but end up an unhappy guy, with what looks like a perfect life. The consequences of not seeking help are great, but the rewards are significant. What the research tells us is that men die early because they don’t take care of themselves, wait longer to acknowledge that they aren’t well, and take longer to seek help. Just so you know that you’re not alone with this, here are some comments that I hear from Portland men.
- “My wife is unhappy”
- “I’m not my usual self”
- “I feel stressed and might be getting burned out”
- “I don’t have as much fun as I used to”
- “I thought that striving to achieve and provide would feel better, but now it just feels flat and I ask myself is that all there is?”
- “I’m afraid I’m going to die without having ever really lived and enjoyed life”
- “I think I’m having a midlife crisis.”
How to thrive, not just strive and survive
Time and again, through my own experience, research, and counseling men in midlife, divorced men, and couples, I’ve witnessed that a greater connection to yourself, your life, and others leads to feeling energized and healthier, both physically and mentally. People who experience more positive relationships and deeper connections are:
- More creative
- Better problem solvers
- More fulfilled and enjoy their life
- More successful at work
- Healthier
